Dinkar Jadhav is a Pune based painter and sculptor known for his bold, block coloured horses and bulls. For more than a decade the two animals have been the heart of his practice: the horse as kinetic energy, the bull as potential energy, both standing for positive power and strength. Working with brush rather than knife, he builds each canvas from twelve to fifteen transparent layers of colour, dividing subject and ground with tones of the same hue to create a surface that is at once vivid and smooth. The same forms have travelled into fibreglass sculpture, carrying their dynamic energy into three dimensions.
Born into a humble family in Jadhavwadi, Pune, Dinkar trained at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune, completing his G.D. Art in Drawing and Painting in 1994 and his A.T.D. in 1995. His three decade career has moved through several subjects and series, each an experiment in form while the underlying energy, as he puts it, has stayed constant.
He has held solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, with Eikowa in Hyderabad and Artisera in Bangalore, and at galleries in Pune and Mumbai since 1995. His work has been shown at the India Art Festival in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, at Gnani Arts in Singapore, Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong, World Art Dubai and art fairs in New York, and more recently at Daca Gallery, New York, and in Los Altos, California. His awards include the Prafulla Art Foundation Kalanand award, awards from the Bombay Art Society and the Art Society of India, and the Maharashtra State Art Award for portrait painting. He is a life member of the Bombay Art Society and his work is held in corporate and private collections in India, the USA, Germany, Canada, Singapore and Dubai.
