About the Artist

Gauri Sanjay Dhumal is a Mumbai based painter whose work explores the relationship between memory, identity and the social environments that shape everyday life. Working mainly in acrylic, she looks at how architecture, community and lived experience give urban spaces their emotional character.

Her ongoing series, The Inner World of Dharavi, documents the cultural richness, resilience and layered identity of one of Mumbai's most dynamic neighbourhoods. Rather than presenting Dharavi through familiar narratives, the paintings reveal its human stories through abstraction, colour, texture and fractured, cubist compositions of rooftops and lanes. Alongside the paintings she produces linocut and woodcut prints on related subjects.

Gauri completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at J.K. Academy of Art and Design, Wadala, Mumbai, in 2026. Her work has been selected for the 46th Monsoon Show at Jehangir Art Gallery, the Art Society of India annual exhibition and Pradarshak's Vidyarthi Vishesh exhibitions, and she has received the Print Making Award and Best Composition Award at her academy's annual exhibition and a prize at the All India Art Competition organised by Teravarna India.
