Ghanshyam Gupta is an internationally acclaimed Indian contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, and serigraphy. At the heart of his work lies the Happy Vibration Theory—a philosophy that explores colour as a transformative force capable of evoking joy, gratitude, healing, and emotional wellbeing. Through luminous compositions and rhythmic visual structures, Gupta seeks to create immersive experiences that transcend aesthetics, inviting viewers to engage with art as a source of reflection and positive energy.
Born in 1969, Ghanshyam studied painting at the Government School of Art, Aurangabad, before completing a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He later earned a Master of Arts in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, London, supported by prestigious scholarships from the INLAKS Foundation and the Po-Shing Woo Foundation. His international education has profoundly shaped a practice that bridges Indian artistic sensibilities with global contemporary discourse.
Over the course of more than three decades, Ghanshyam has presented an extensive programme of solo exhibitions across India, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, while participating in major international exhibitions, biennales, and print triennials. His works have been exhibited at institutions including the Royal Academy of Arts, London, the Lalit Kala Akademi, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and galleries across Europe, North America, and Asia. His paintings and prints have also featured in significant auctions organised by AstaGuru, Bonhams, and Osian's.
A recipient of numerous national and international honours—including the Nordsten Award at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Tokyo International Mini-Print Triennial Award, the Bombay Art Society Gold Medal, and the Hyderabad Art Festival First Prize—Ghanshyam continues to expand the expressive potential of contemporary abstraction. His work is held in public and private collections worldwide and remains distinguished by its synthesis of technical mastery, philosophical inquiry, and an unwavering belief in the emotional power of colour.
