Gouri Vemula
About the Artist

Gouri Vemula explores the delicate space between dreams and reality, creating surreal landscapes where memory, imagination, nature, and human experience converge. Drawing from childhood recollections and her immediate surroundings, her works evoke a sense of nostalgia, wonder, and quiet contemplation.

Her distinctive imagery often features humanized animals and birds inhabiting imaginary worlds, reflecting ideas of unity, sharing, caring, and harmony. Nature becomes both a source of inspiration and a metaphorical landscape, filled with riddles, ambiguities, and unexpected encounters.

Through intricate details and poetic narratives, Vemula invites viewers to look beyond the familiar and discover hidden stories within her compositions. Her practice is an ongoing exploration of memory, fantasy, and the mysteries of the natural world.

Based between Indore and Hyderabad, India, Vemula holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Hyderabad and has exhibited extensively across India and internationally. Her accolades include the Keerthi Puraskaram for Contribution to Art, the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award in Drawing, and the Prafulla Dhanukar Award.
