Dr. Madhuri Kathe is an Indian contemporary abstract artist whose practice is deeply rooted in the philosophy of the Panchtatva, or the five elements. Her paintings emerge from an intuitive and meditative process, exploring abstraction as a visual language through which colour, form, and energy become expressions of consciousness rather than representations of the visible world.

Born in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Madhuri holds master's degrees in Drawing and Painting and Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, and earned a Ph.D. for her research on the Raghogarh School of Painting. Guided by influential mentors including Padma Shri Dr. V. S. Wakankar, her practice reflects a rare synthesis of academic scholarship, spiritual inquiry, and contemporary abstraction.

Over the past two decades, Madhuri has presented solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Artisans, and Artisera, while participating in international fairs and exhibitions including the Busan International Art Fair, Monaco International Art Fair, and group exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, and across India. Her work has been recognised through numerous national awards, including honours from AIFACS, Rashtriya Kalidas Samaroh, Banaras Hindu University, and Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad.

For Madhuri, painting is a form of meditation in which the artist becomes a conduit for universal energies rather than their creator. Through layered surfaces and intuitive abstraction, her work encourages viewers to move beyond literal interpretation toward contemplation, inner awareness, and the unseen rhythms that connect nature, consciousness, and existence.
