Satish Tayade is a Pune based painter whose work explores identity, femininity, resistance and the changing position of women in Indian society. With more than two decades of experience in painting, illustration and visual storytelling, he creates bold, emotionally charged portraits in oil, acrylic and watercolour, characterised by expressive forms, strong gestures and an intuitive use of colour and texture.
His recent paintings centre on a new generation of Indian women negotiating tradition, freedom, beauty, power and self expression. He often reimagines familiar cultural, historical and mythological narratives from a contemporary perspective, placing women at the centre as independent individuals rather than passive figures, and inviting viewers to reconsider the roles and expectations assigned to them.
Satish trained in painting at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune. Alongside his studio practice he has an extensive career in illustration and design, including more than two hundred illustrations for Deepak Chopra's Kamasutra, the Ramayana 3392 AD comic series, set design for the television series Devon Ke Dev Mahadev and concept art for the film Brahmastra.
His work has been shown at Cymroza Art Gallery and Nehru Centre in Mumbai, Lokayata Art Gallery in Delhi, the India Art Festival in Hyderabad, New Delhi and Bangalore, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad in Bangalore and NO 35 Art Gallery in the UK. His awards include a gold medal at the All India Art Contest organised by Pullaiah Kala Nilayam, the Best Watercolour Award at the SCZCC All India Art Contest in Nagpur and the second award for portraiture at the V. V. Oak National Contest. His paintings are held in collections in India, the UK, the Netherlands and the USA.
