Shankar Devarukhe is an Indian contemporary artist whose practice is grounded in a deep understanding of landscape, colour, and painterly expression. Working across watercolour, acrylic, and oil, he creates compositions that capture the changing moods of nature while revealing a refined sensitivity to atmosphere, light, and texture.
Born in Satara, Maharashtra, Shankar received comprehensive academic training, earning both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts with distinction from Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Fine Arts, Pune, following earlier studies in Drawing and Painting and Art Education at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya. His rigorous education has provided the foundation for a practice that balances technical excellence with expressive freedom.
An active participant in the Indian art community for more than two decades, Shankar has exhibited widely through Maharashtra State Art Exhibitions, AIFACS, the Bombay Art Society, and numerous national exhibitions. His achievements have been recognised through prestigious honours including the Rang Roop Kala Shiromani Award presented by the Indo–UK Cultural Forum in London, alongside awards from the Bombay Art Society and other leading institutions.
Whether depicting expansive landscapes or intimate studies of nature, Shankar's paintings celebrate the transformative power of observation, encouraging viewers to experience the landscape not simply as scenery but as a living source of contemplation and emotional connection.
