Dr. Shirish Ambekar is an Indian contemporary painter, educator, and researcher whose practice explores the relationship between visual perception, painterly process, and the evolving language of contemporary art. His work is distinguished by a thoughtful engagement with composition, colour, and materiality, transforming observed reality into layered visual experiences that extend beyond straightforward representation.

Holding a Ph.D. in Painting from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, alongside an MFA in Painting and UGC-NET qualification in Visual Arts, Shirish brings together academic scholarship and studio practice in equal measure. His paintings reflect decades of research, experimentation, and teaching, resulting in a practice that is intellectually rigorous while remaining deeply rooted in the sensory experience of painting.
