My practice is rooted in the visual traditions of Indian figurative art and folk culture, which I reinterpret through a contemporary sensibility. Rather than treating tradition as a fixed inheritance, I see it as a living vocabulary—one that can be fragmented, transformed, and reimagined in response to the visual and cultural realities of the present.

I am interested in the space between the recognisable and the imagined, where figuration moves towards abstraction and reality slips into the surreal. My works often construct intimate, self-contained worlds that exist outside the logic of everyday experience. Within these spaces, figures, forms, memories, and fragments of nature come together to create narratives that are deliberately open to interpretation.

Material and process are central to this exploration. My practice moves beyond conventional painting to incorporate found and organic materials, including plant matter, canvas rolls, discarded objects, and other everyday elements. I have experimented with actual plants as stencils, creating impressions and traces that explore the relationship between painting and photography without the use of a camera. The changing availability of natural materials introduces an element of chance and temporality into the work, while reinforcing my ongoing engagement with nature and its cycles.

The use of discarded industrial materials alongside organic forms is also a way of examining contrasts—between the natural and the manufactured, permanence and impermanence, consumption and regeneration. These material encounters allow the work to exist between painting, sculpture, installation, and image-making.

Although the human figure remains a recurring presence, I approach it fluidly. At times it appears with a degree of realism against abstract environments; at others, it is reduced to lines, gestures, or fragments. This movement between representation and abstraction allows me to explore emotion, memory, identity, and perception without being confined to a single visual language.

I am not committed to any particular medium. My choice of material is determined by the story, sensation, or idea I wish to communicate. The act of making is therefore as much an investigation as it is an execution—an ongoing process of discovering what a material, form, or image can become.

Ultimately, my work seeks to create a space of encounter between the artist and the viewer. I leave room for ambiguity because I believe an artwork becomes complete not only through its making, but also through the experiences, memories, and interpretations that the viewer brings to it.

My practice is a continuous dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, nature and human intervention, the real and the imagined, the organic and the discarded. Through this dialogue, I seek to create works that are visually compelling yet conceptually open—works that invite the viewer to pause, enter, and discover their own meaning.

Growing up in a culturally rich environment surrounded by music, art, literature, and photography, I developed an early and lasting connection with the arts. With a classical musician father and an artist mother, creativity became an integral part of my life before evolving into a professional practice.

My artistic journey began with figurative painting and the visual traditions of Indian folk culture. Over time, I moved beyond traditional forms, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens and developing a practice that embraces experimentation, abstraction, nature, and unconventional materials.

My work has gradually expanded from two-dimensional painting to prints, mixed media, and three-dimensional surfaces. My explorations with found objects and natural materials—particularly plant matter—reflect my interest in impermanence, transformation, and the relationship between nature and human intervention.

Today, my practice continues to move between the real and the surreal, figuration and abstraction, tradition and contemporary expression. Each body of work is part of an ongoing search for new materials, processes, and visual languages through which I can translate the stories and ideas that occupy my imagination.

My journey is an evolving dialogue between where I come from, what I observe, and what I imagine.

My artistic language is influenced by the figurative traditions and folk culture of India, which I reinterpret through a contemporary visual sensibility. Growing up surrounded by music, art, literature and photography also shaped my understanding of image, rhythm, narrative and visual expression.

I am drawn to the relationship between the real and the surreal, the familiar and the imagined. Nature is another recurring influence, particularly its fragments, textures and changing forms. My use of found plant material, canvas rolls and everyday objects reflects my inclination towards experimentation and discovery.

I am particularly interested in materials that allow unexpected combinations. Rather than beginning with a predetermined outcome, I allow the process to guide the work, combining unlikely materials, colours and spatial arrangements to discover new possibilities.

My practice therefore moves between figuration and abstraction, painting and sculpture, tradition and contemporary expression. At its core is a constant curiosity—to experiment, to surprise myself, and to create works that invite the viewer to participate in completing their meaning.
