Voices of the Chandrabhaga

I captured this photograph at Pandharpur in Maharashtra, India, during the sacred Wari/Palkhi festival . Hundreds of thousands of devotees (Varkaris) journey to the holy town on foot, covering a distance of over 220 kilometers. Throughout the pilgrimage and upon arrival, the atmosphere comes alive with vibrant traditions devotees express their devotion through traditional music, dance, and chants. I came across this devotee standing in the waters of the Chandrabhaga River, singing a traditional prayer for the common good while gazing up at the sky
