Poolamma series

Concept Note – Laxman Aelay Poolamma – The Goddess of Life This series celebrates rural women of Telangana as divine embodiments of life, strength, and beauty. Poolamma is a symbolic goddess drawn from memory, folklore, and lived experience. Clad in vibrant sarees and adorned with traditional ornaments, these women exude quiet power. The large painting, Seven Sisters, evokes the mythic Sapta Matrikas – seven divine mothers. Each figure stands for sisterhood, resilience, and generational wisdom. Floral backgrounds represent fertility, harmony, and the rhythms of rural life. These works blend the sacred with the everyday, honoring unsung female heroes. The style draws from Nakashi, textile motifs, and temple murals in a modern voice. Through Poolamma, the ordinary woman becomes the eternal goddess. She is not one, but many — a collective spirit of feminine grace. This is a tribute to women as nurturers, creators, and carriers of cultural identity.
