Devadasi

Devadasi documents a ritual that is disappearing - the woman who carries the goddess. The central figure, dark-skinned with intense red-yellow bindi and white-orange saree, balances the Devi on her head with one hand, a flower basket in the other. Around her, seven women musicians in green, yellow and patchwork Ilkal sarees play folk instruments, two little girls in red and blue hold offerings, and two boys in Gandhi topi watch. Shopping bags at their feet show the sacred meets the market. Painted in semi-cubist rural contemporary style in 2025 and SOLD, it is a powerful tribute to women who embody both art and devotion in North Karnataka.
