Folk music

Folk Music archives a vanishing tradition - the wandering folk performers of North Karnataka. At centre, a dark-skinned woman in white saree holds a decorated tambura, her face marked with bold red-yellow tilak. Beside her, a dhol player in striped shirt and white cap, women in green and blue patchwork sarees, and two children with small drums form a moving choir. Their bodies are elongated, semi-cubist, adorned with simple jewelry. The vermillion backdrop with distant fort-like structures situates them on a village street. Painted in 2025 and now SOLD, the work celebrates music as livelihood, devotion and collective memory.
