Village Market freezes the weekly Santhe where economy meets social ritual. At centre, a woman in red blouse sits with baskets of oranges, eggs and kumkum, negotiating with a woman in green saree holding a woven box. To the right, a proud woman carries a rooster for sale, her pink shopping bag bright against orange saree. Around them, girls in long skirts, vendors, and shoppers fill the red-walled lane. The foreground steel paraat full of fruits anchors the scene. Painted in my semi-cubist narrative style with bold red and patchwork sarees, this 2024 SOLD work celebrates women as traders, mothers and custodians of the local bazaar.
