My practice is rooted in an ongoing exploration of identity, existence, culture, and the complex relationship between the individual and the world around them. Working primarily in oil, I approach painting as both a process of observation and a space for contemplation. My practice is grounded in detailed drawing and classical rendering, while remaining open to contemporary ways of understanding the human experience.
Having lived and worked in Mumbai, I have been deeply influenced by the city's pace, diversity, contradictions, and resilience. These experiences have shaped my interest in the ways people negotiate their sense of self within changing social and cultural environments. Across my practice, I return to questions of belonging, individuality, emotional vulnerability, equality, and our shared human experience.
My exhibitions over the years have developed as different chapters of this inquiry—from *Astitva*, which explored existence and the essence of being, to *Local Spine*, which considered the relationship between place and identity; *Soft Land*, which moved toward the emotional and fragile dimensions of human experience; and *Equals* and *Unity*, which explored ideas of equality, connection, and shared humanity.
For me, painting is a slow and meditative act. It allows me to look beyond the immediate appearance of a subject and search for the emotional and psychological presence beneath it. I hope my work creates a moment of stillness for the viewer—an opportunity to pause, look inward, and consider our relationship with ourselves and with one another.
My practice continues to evolve through this dialogue between observation, experience, and contemplation, with each body of work becoming another step in an ongoing investigation of what it means to exist, belong, and connect.
My artistic journey began with his formal training in painting at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, followed by his first solo exhibition, *Astitva*, at Jehangir Art Gallery in 2003. Over the years, his practice has evolved through a series of exhibitions exploring existence, identity, place, emotional experience, equality, and unity.
Through exhibitions such as *Local Spine*, *Soft Land*, *Equals*, and *Unity*, his work has developed into an ongoing dialogue between the individual and the world around them. His practice has been presented at prominent galleries and art fairs in India and abroad, and has received several awards, including the Maharashtra State Award for Best Portrait and the Art Society of India Award for Best Painting.
Today, his practice continues to evolve through painting as a meditative exploration of human experience, connection, and the complexities of contemporary life.
My artistic practice is deeply influenced by the people, culture, and everyday life around me. Living and working in Mumbai has shaped the way I observe human behaviour, emotions, and the contrasts within contemporary life. I am drawn to the human figure, realistic observation, and the quiet emotions that often remain beneath the surface.
My foundation in classical drawing and oil painting continues to influence my approach, while my experiences constantly lead me toward new subjects and ideas. I am particularly interested in themes of identity, existence, relationships, belonging, and the shared experiences that connect us as people.
